Want to be More Connected to DV LEAP? Join the Advocacy Council!

Advocacy Council Application

The Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project (“DV LEAP”) is seeking membership applications for its new Advocacy Council (“the Council”).

DV LEAP is a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence. Its mission is to:

  • Overturn unjust domestic violence trial court outcomes across the country;
  • Advance legal protections for domestic violence victims and their children through expert appellate advocacy;
  • Train lawyers, psychologists, and judges on best practices for domestic violence cases and victims; and
  • Spearhead domestic violence litigation at the Supreme Court.

Members of the Advocacy Council serve as ambassadors for DV LEAP and help support the mission by increasing awareness about the organization, holding educational events, advocating alongside DV LEAP’s lawyers on behalf of survivors of domestic violence, hosting fundraisers to support pro bono representation of those survivors, and interacting with the Board of Directors. The Council also assists with DV LEAP’s annual Tip the Scales of Justice benefit.

The Advocacy Council seeks qualified candidates to serve as active members, who may also be considered for the position of Co-Chair upon being involved in the organization for one year. Additionally, the Council seeks two Law Student Representatives to serve a one semester term (Spring 2020), with the option to continue working with the Council for Summer 2020 as well.

Interested applicants should submit a résumé, two references, and a one-page letter of interest. Please send all materials to Flora Patel at Please include “Advocacy Council Application, [Your Full Name]” in the subject line of the email. Advocacy Council applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
