DV LEAP is proud to expand its appellate support of family abuse survivors to include Mississippi, our 22nd state, where we recently filed an amicus brief on behalf of a survivor mom.
In this case, the family law court refused to extend the protection order she had received against the father after he threatened to “put a bullet” in her head. DV LEAP’s amicus explained the harm caused by threats and other forms of non-physical abuse, the increased danger many survivors face after separation, and the importance of protection orders to prevent further harm, both mental and physical. We were excited to be represented for the first time by a talented pro bono team from Venable LLP: Michael Robinson, Liza Sneitzer and Carly Celestino, and look forward to future partnerships. The Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence joined DV LEAP as amicus and the Mississippi Center for Justice graciously served as local counsel.
