Updated: March 23, 2020
DV LEAP (Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project) has been monitoring COVID-19 closely, and while our staff are now working remotely, we continue to provide our full range of appellate legal services. If you are in need of a legal appeal, please complete this online application.
If you live in the District of Columbia and have or need a protection order, please see the updated order from the DC Superior Court’s Chief Judge: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m-cribrKApXPIG_Xl74C1bsBbPr1v2vB/view?usp=sharing
All existing temporary and final civil protection orders will stay in effect until May 15th, 2020 and hearings scheduled before the date will be continued. Temporary Protection Order (TPO) requests will go through the Emergency Temporary Protection Order (ETPO) process which will be accessible 24/7 during the time of reduced court operations. If you are in DC and are in immediate danger, please call the Metropolitan Police Department or the DC SAFE Critical Response Team (800) 407-5048 to access the ETPO process and find out if you qualify for a TPO.

In addition, the National Network to End Domestic Violence has an up-to-date resource page with information for those in need of shelters or a program anywhere in the US: https://nnedv.org/latest_update/resources-response-coronavirus-covid-19/
Finally, socially isolating and working from home may increase danger and risk for some. Additional resources include the National Domestic Violence Hotline: available by phone (24/7) 1-800-799-7233; online at thehotline.org; or by texting LOVEIS to 22522.
Please know that services are available during this difficult time and you are not alone.
