Collective Memo of Concern to: WHO about "Parental Alienation"

The World Health Organization is considering the addition of “parental alienation” (PA) as a “caregiver-child relationship problem” in ICD-11, the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision.

Currently, PA is a theory courts accept. Under this theory, abusive parents tend to be granted more lenient access. DV LEAP for many years has been arguing that PA lacks scientific support and has been thoroughly discredited. Additionally, PA in custody litigation causes significant harm to children rather than helping them.

DV LEAP a long with 339 experts and professional organizations have signed onto this memo which requests the removal of all references to “parental alienation” and related concepts in ICD-11.
