J v. N

D.C. Court of Appeals - 2004

DV LEAP represented a professional woman who had suffered extended stalking and threats from a former dating partner, had successfully taken criminal and civil legal actions against him, and was now being harassed through his litigation appeals.

DV LEAP consulted with and assisted the client in filing several pro se motions while she was unrepresented, and then placed the case with a local law firm for appellate representation. The case involved multiple frivolous motions by the abuser, and the law firm representation allowed the client to feel slightly more insulated from his harassment through litigation.

The case presented important procedural issues and also an opportunity to support a trial court’s appropriate issuance of a civil protection order (CPO). A favorable appellate decision affirmed the trial court’s issuance of the CPO.
